Fundraisers and Fashion. A Perfect Pairing.....

A Fashionably Late Installment by Mandy Gray

For fashionistas and philanthropists alike, the first Monday in May is when the prominent Met Gala marks the official start to the summer gala season. While the Met Gala began as a $50 dinner ticket in 1948, we have watched it evolve into one of the largest nights of fundraising in New York City, with total contributions of 2019 reaching just over $15M. With Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour at its helm, the fashion and notorious themes seem to outdo themselves, year after year.

Following the Met’s glorious lead, we are eagerly watching this trend of fundraising meeting fashion, through galas and charitable events, worldwide. From ARK to Cannes (just this last weekend), there is no sweeter pairing than stunning gowns and global awareness.

While some might argue that the elite and titular nature of such events is the propeller to the pairing, no doubt the networking and discovery opportunities at fundraisers create a reason alone to dress for success. While my invitation to both the Met and Cannes must have been lost in the mail this year, you can bet on my support for local organizations, educational systems, and foundations, here in the Pacific Northwest.
