Kate S. Mensah’s design is an expression of her multi-cultural upbringing, her love for the female form, and a life-long fascination with nature. Through the incorporation of exclusively natural fabrics, Kate strives to create sensual, high-quality clothing that simultaneously offers comfort and luxury to women around the world .
Born in Paris to parents from the Caribbean island of Martinique, Mensah has enjoyed life in Europe, Africa, and The United States, and channels the complexity of these different cultural experiences into her design. Between her colors, fabrics, and silhouettes, Mensah
creates pieces that balance sensuality and sophistication.
Mensah was introduced to the fashion design during an internship with the French luxury brand Cacharel, where she received an International Import/Export Certificate, and became familiar with ready-to-wear offerings, fragrances, and accessories.
With the creation of her wedding dress, Mensah’s exploration of design began whole- heartedly. Using African fabrics from Benin, Mensah created a modern African wedding suit, and was inspired to enroll in the New York Fashion Academy’s Seattle-based curriculum in 2010. Mensah launched a small collection, “Femme Fatale,” in 2011, for which she was awarded “Best Evening Wear Designer” in Seattle Magazine’s Seamless in Seattle Competition.
In 2012, Mensah’s second collection, “The Visionaire,” was presented at Seattle’s Metropolitan Fashion Week and Vancouver’s Eco-Fashion Week. Mensah’s Spring 2013 collection will be showcased at the Bellevue Collection’s Independent Designer Runway Show, during Bellevue Fashion Week.
